Karisa's broken ankle...

Karisa spent the fall of first grade taking dance class.  When January came along we decided she would try something new so we signed her up for gymnastics.  She was SUPER excited when we discovered she could be in the same class as Tess Gledhill and Ella!  What could be better than that?  She even got new leotards for Christmas.  Well, 3rd time going to class (Monday, January 30, 2023) did not go well.  At the very end of class she was doing a higher beam than she had done before.  She fell off the beam towards the end of it and landed in pain.  Her coach came to her to see if she was ok, got her an ice pack, and since it was the end of class she put her shoes on in tears and we left.  We dropped Ella off at home that night and when we got home her ankle was very swollen.  We put ice on it right away.  The further on the night went, the less she wanted to put weight on it.  The next morning it was still very swollen and now she wouldn't even attempt to stand.  So we got an appointment at urgent care and headed there to see what they had to say.
They took an x-ray of her foot and told us it was definitely sprained.  She had torn 1 of 3 ligaments.  But he said there was one little part on the x-ray he couldn't quite make out.  So for now she would wear a walking boot, they would send the x-rays to the hospital to be looked at by radiologists, and then if he heard anything back they would give me a call.  But he said it was unlikely he would be calling me back...an hour and a half later he called back to say it was broken.  She had a small fracture on the ankle bone (talus - I think) that is connected to the fibula.  So I needed to come back and get crutches because she couldn't put any weight on it until we saw the orthopedist...hopefully they would call me by Monday (it was Tuesday).  Fortunately, we were able to get an appointment that Friday and he said she didn't need to use the crutches anymore!  So she will be in the walking boot for 8 weeks unless we have better news at her 4 week appointment.  She has had minimal pain and the fracture is not on any growth plates so should heal quickly and well.
Karisa became quite proficient at using her crutches.  Mrs. Moore was very sweet with her at school and pushed her around on her wheeled chair.  And all the kids were very helpful to her...especially Sam, Rylee, and Avery.  And if you have to use crutches...why not look cute doing it!

Passing of Sis. Butler

Saturday January 28, 2023
We attended Barbara Butler's funeral.  She passed away after fighting Parkinson's disease for 10 years.  Darran had the opportunity to reunite with good friends from high school after the funeral.
Darran, Bryan Meyers, Camille Butler McInelly, Rachel Bibe Hayes.
Bryan, Darran, Aaron Chan, Camille, Chris Butler, Shannon Fisher, Rachel.
Darran spent a lot of the time at the Butler's house his last few years of high school with these friends.  Sis. Butler was my Young Women's leader for a few years.  In fact, she was the Young Women president when I was Laurel President.  She was very musically talented and always positive and happy.  It was a nice opportunity to be with her family and honor her life.

Hockey game!

Friday January 27, 2023
Lydia had a visit from some of the Tri City American hockey players at school.  As part of their presentation to the 3rd graders they gave all the kids a free ticket to a game.  So we bought a few more tickets and took the girls to the hockey game.

One of the players was injured pretty badly.  He was knocked unconscious for a few seconds, was bleeding from his chin pretty bad, and had to be taken out on a stretcher.  An ambulance came and got him but we found out the next day that he was alright.  It wasn't really the excitement we were expecting from the game but we had a good time!  Go Ams!

Crazy hair day!

Friday January 27, 2023
Crazy hair day at Amon Creek!  Lydia had her hair in a crazy bun, ponytail, and braid!  Karisa had her hair if 5 looped ponytails!

Some pictures of friends with crazy hair from Karisa's class...with Ms. Barrington her student teacher.

Harlem Globetrotters

Friday January 20, 2023 we joined some of our Moody family to watch the Harlem Globetrotters play at the Toyota Center.  It was a fun night!

Weekend dates...

We took the weekend of January 13 and 14 to have daddy/daughter and mommy/daughter dates.

Mom is terrible at remembering to take pictures but Eliza and I watched Enola Homes 2 together and the next morning Lydia and I went out to breakfast and then watched Second Born Royals.

Karisa and Dad went to the carousel and then to McDonalds for lunch.

She even grabbed the gold ring and won a free token!

Talia chose to go roller skating with Dad.  She took her rollerblades she got for Christmas and is getting pretty good at it!

Temple baptisms...

Saturday January 7, 2023
We went to the temple with the Gledhills and Mansius to perform baptisms.  It was Brynna and Kenzi's first time to the temple and we loved being a part of their experience!  It sure is a blessing to have a temple so close where are kids can go often and be there with friends and family.

Happy New Year 2023!

We had a little bit of a rough start to 2023!  We spent the New Year at Cocolalla with Grandpa, Grandma, Mitch and Elayna and kids, Andy and Julie and kids, and Dallin and Cassie and kids.  The plan was to sled, eat lots, and enjoy family.  It was a bit interrupted by a stomach bug that moved through everyone...literally EVERYONE.  Not a soul was spared.  Eliza and Lydia started our family off the night before New Year's Eve.  Talia started New Year's Eve morning with Karisa following that night.  Darran and I were able to wait until we got home to get sick.  Then spent all of our last day of Christmas break in bed!  It definitely was not how we anticipated the new year arriving for us.  But at least it was short lived (though brutal) and a relatively quick recovery.  Here are a few pictures of when we were feeling "decent!"
